Kaia Studios consolidates its successful career
22 December 2016
The Dynasty Feud video game from Kaia Studios has won the PlayStation Talents 2016 Award in the Best Use category of PlayStation Platforms.
Madrid's Callao cinemas were the venue for the third edition of the PlayStation Awards, which annually recognize the «development of independent, original and quality Spanish video games». Kaia Studios' debut opera, which already won the prize for the best Basque videogame of 2016 in the AzPlay contest in Bilbao, has once again recognized the capacity and talent of its creators.
Kaia Studios participated in 2015 in the mentoring program promoted by Bilbao Ekintza in collaboration with the Association of Designers of Euskadi EIDE. In this innovative program, a designer with a long history in the business world helped to learn and guided, based on his experience, new entrepreneurs. ADN DESIGN collaborated with Eneko Egiluz on visualizing and improving Kaia Studios' business proposal, making it easier for the emerging company based in Bilbao to analyze situations from different points of view and make better-informed decision-making.
As Carlos San José, director of the ADN DESIGN mentoring project commented, «our contribution has focused mainly on visualizing through mental maps the definition of the different areas associated with the development of the project». Through a very visual narrative, the team has analyzed aspects of the structure of the service offering, company management, communication, collaboration with suppliers and users and a series of parameters essential for the development of the Business Plan.
«In each of these aspects,» continued Carlos San José, «possible areas of improvement have been detected, such as the mapping of strategic relationships or the visualization of possible adverse scenarios and the actions necessary to be able to address them».
Definitely, design and design thinking contribute innovative and robust visions in aspects related to the business model, the profile of the people that make up the target audience for the proposal or the offer of products and services. Through a structured process and with planned meetings, Kaia Sudios and ADN DESIGN have explored the enormous potential of design thinking directed to the videogames sector.

ADN DESIGN shares knowledge
27 June 2014

As in previous years, Brigitte has been involved with theoretical and practical sessions in various training activities for both industrial design students, and students from other design disciplines or related fields. In this context she had the opportunity to participate in the course of interaction and perception of the Mondragon University master in Strategic Design, with the seminar use value and its strategic projection:
Together we explored attitudes and tools which enable us to guide the design towards the creation of inspiration and opportunities spaces, where we can devise new proposals that will have meaning and value to people; proposals that meet and anticipate the experiences desired by consumers
At the master in Marketing and Commercial Management -organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU- she has focused her lecture on the need to offer a proposal perceived as coherent by consumers, the identification of the elements and the attributes that participate to this consistency, and the necessary permeability of the company to its context that this implies.
Design has the ability to help companies identify the keys that enable them to understand and anticipate the changing needs and aspirations of their consumers. It may even accompany the creation of an organizational model able to integrate these changes and identify opportunities resulting from technological advances. In short, Design can help companies to develop an attitude of proactive listening to society, and to boost the binomial Design & Marketing, as a generator of significant -daily or extraordinary- experiences for people and of solid business opportunities in a social and economic model in mutation.
She has also participated, as in previous years, in the course of university specialist in fashion design promoted by the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU:
My contribution aims to bring the vision and the tools of product design and services, to the world of fashion. I am particularly interested in provoking a reflection on user centered design in the field of fashion; holding people as a source of information and inspiration, and favouring their participation in the creation process.
Finally, we want to highlight the opportunity given to us by the Mondragon University, to present our design studio, and our vision of design, to the first year students of Engineering in Industrial Design and Product Development.
It has been a great experience to pass on, to first year students, the knowledge acquired throughout my years of experience in ADN DESIGN. I hope it will help them address their studies with a clearer understanding of the usefulness of the knowledge they will receive throughout their career. The assessment of this experience by their teachers was very positive. They considered that their students were able to capture many of the ideas I shared, and that they understood and retained most of the concepts presented. I am very satisfied for it.
These interventions reflect the strong commitment of our design studio towards the exchange of good practices between design disciplines, the promotion of a design approach based on the generation of experiences valuable to people, and the diffusion of a strategic vision of the work of conception.

Imaginaction: Beyond Problem Solving
10 July 2013
In this ambiguous and changing world, profoundly influenced by the crisis and uncertainty, solving problems no longer is of any help for us. Entrepreneurs, companies, and organizations must stop focusing their attention only in solving definite problems and start adventuring a much more complex, interconnected, and rich territory that integrates research, knowledge, and creative exploration into a new synthesis: Imaginaction.
The new creative actor of the 21st century is no longer a simple troubleshooter, but an explorer of opportunities. Mr. Wolf, from the well-known Tarantino’s movie is a new Dr. Livingstone, an explorer open to the discovery of the creative springs and the possibilities hidden in the boundaries of the problems. This can be the inflection point of the design activity in the future and one of the springs for building radically innovative and competitive organizations.
How should we manage the complex problems that we have to face in order to avoid that they distort our perception of reality? In which way can we use crisis and chaos as a creative launch pad towards a more caring, responsible, and sustainable future? Which attitudes and which conceptual tools do we need to develop for exploring and recognising the opportunities hidden in the complex current situation? How can we turn this opportunities into radical innovative proposals? These issues will strongly influence in the evolution of design and creativity during the next years.

This Is Industrial Design
06 May 2013
During the past April 25 and 26, the Andalusian city of Malaga has hosted the First National Congress This is Industrial Design in La Térmica cultural center. The initiative, organized by the Industrial Designers Association DIZ Málaga and supported by La Térmica and the Fundación General Universidad de Málaga, has been an interesting meeting point for professionals, academics and industrial design students who were able to discuss and exchange experiences through of a series of workshops, panel discussions and seminars.
Among the conference speakers were well-known top designers as well as emerging figures in the design scene. José Manuel Mateo, Gerard Moline, Carlos Alonso Pascual, Granada Barrero and Pablo Rohrssen offered his vision and experience of reality and future challenges of design in Spain and discussed the most appropriate strategy to promote, enhance and boost design culture. Creativity, innovation, competitiveness, engineering, reuse, sustainability, differentiation, solutions, biomimetics, functionality and optimization are among the concepts that have been discussed passionately on This is Industrial Design.
In a paper entitled Biomimetics & Design, Carlos Alonso Pascual offered his view on design as a problem solver activity and, what is more significant in this situation deeply conditioned by uncertainty and crisis, design as exploring new possibilities. In both activities, the study of nature is a very powerful engine for creativity and innovation, establishing connections, suggesting new solutions to human problems and fleshing transformative visions of reality.
From the chariots of Hephaestus "inspired by the bones of dead birds" that Homer describes in the Iliad, to the latest creations of the most renowned designers, Nature has been able to provide a framework for creativity and innovation extremely powerful. However, in the complex landscape currently configured, biomimetics must overcome to find solutions to specific problems to take nature not as a repertoire, but as a general framework for reflection and inspiration. As Carlos Alonso mentioned in an earlier interview:
Biomimetic research and Design research must evolve from simple emulation of living organisms into a more dynamic framework inspired by natural processes. They also must stop focusing on the solution of specific problems to venture into a much more complex, rich and interconnected territory: the exploration of possibilities.

DESIGN DREAMING, the genuine sense of design
Each step in the evolution of the design discipline has had its own number of misunderstandings and unavoidable collateral damages. Now, in the era of Design Thinking, on the shift to Design Doing, is there some missing link we should worry about? Have we been overlooking some crucial aspect? Are we missing the point about the genuine sense of Design?
